Alas Uruguay is an airline in Uruguay. It was founded by former employees of PLUNA which closed in 2012, as a public company most of its life, or mixed economy in recent years, although Alas Uruguay was started as a private company. Its bases are Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo and Capitán de Corbeta Carlos A. Curbelo International Airport in Punta del Este. The new company of former PLUNA workers adopted the name Alas-U, but in October 2013 as reformulated Alas Uruguay. It will commence operations in 2015, using Boeing 737 aircraft. ==History== Since the collapse of PLUNA in 2012, after 76 years of being founded in 1936. The new company was initially called Alas-U, and in October 2013 reformulated Alas Uruguay. It is the second largest carrier in domestic share, behind BQB Líneas Aéreas. Alas Uruguay is due to commence operation in 2015 from Montevideo to Asunción, Paraguay.
